An international traveler whose solo journey around the world was highlighted in Conde Nast Traveler and exposed in her award-winning short LONELY PLANET, Alex Burunova is described by industry insiders as “one to watch” in the growing world of female directors. Alex Burunova’s short films have been showcased at over 60 international festivals, including Oscar-qualifying Los Angeles SFF, Palm Springs SF, Newport Beach FF, to name a few.

Her documentary special shot in Japan, ENTER THE ANIME, released as a Netflix Original in August 2019.

Hand-picked by A&E’s  digital network to helm their female-driven series, MEASUREMENTS, Alex's one-hour pilot became the most watched series on the channel.

After graduating USC film school with honors, mentored by some of the finest directors working today, Alex has worked alongside the Coen Brother’s on TRUE GRIT and on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL while logging time at Lucas Film. Directing several documentaries and shorts in Spain, Dominican Republic, and Japan helped develop her voice as a female filmmaker.

Her mother, Tatiana Burunova, famous saxophone player from USSR, traveled worldwide with a young Alex in tow. As a result, Alex’s unconventional upbringing and global perspective of people and places helped define her ability to tell incredible stories and connect with people through a unique lens and voice.

She is now in post production on her first narrative feature film shot in Greece.
